...OH MAN...WHAT WAS I THINKING?
....A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE! I TOOK A FEW MONTHS OFF AFTER WRAPPING UP ON THE HEAVY METAL MOVIE, I STARTED BACK AT FILMATION AS PART OF A DEVELOPMENT TEAM=DAVE DUNNET http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0242918/ AND BRUCE ZICK http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0955981/-PROJECT=MATTEL'S HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE=GOAL, TO DESIGN THE WORLD IN TANDEM WITH THE TOY DESIGN, NOT NECESSARILY IN THE SAME DIRECTION! STILL FRESH IN THE INDUSTRY AND HAVING A LOT TO LEARN, I JUMPED IN HEAD FIRST! WE TRIED TO INTRODUCE A BIT MORE COMPLEX DESIGN WITH EMPHASIS ON THE "CHEESE" SIDE!AFTER A XEROX STYLE CLEAN-UP LINE PASS THROUGH THE LATE, GREAT IRMA ROSIEN'S BABALICIOUS CREW...THEIR'S WAS THE ONLY ARTWORK THAT SURVIVED BECAUSE THE ANIMATION CHECKING DEPT DIDN'T HAVE ROOM TO STORE OUR ROUGHS SO THEY THREW THEM AWAY...ARRGH! ANY WAY... THE BGS ENDED UP IN ERV KAPLAN'S DEPARTMENT! AT THAT POINT, THE ONLY THING WE HAD ON OUR SIDE WAS PRAYER! WAS IT GOING TO BE TOO MUCH TO PAINT WHAT WITH ALL THE ADDED DETAIL AND STUFF AND WOULD THEY MAKE GOOD COLOR CHOICES! ALL IN ALL IT DIDN'T TURN OUT TOO BAD....WHAT THE HELL....WE WERE FILMATION....HUZZAH!
Just finished checking out your blog and I'm blown away! You're layout work is an inspiration! I have actually used some of your stuff from hunchback (the catacombs)unknowingly for reference on a piece I was working on. I had no idea how much imagery you've contributed to some of my favorite movies! And you barely even mentioned any of it the other day! You crack me up man.
YOU REALLY LIKE CAPSLOCK DONT YOU
